Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt using a specific set of GPS coordinates and searching for hidden geocaches (containers). We’ll discuss the basics, share stories, and make a cache to take home. You may be wondering, what is geocaching? The word is a combination of "geo" - geography - and "caching" - a hiking term for concealing and preserving provisions. Geocaching is a worldwide outdoor treasure hunt where people hide ”geocaches" (containers) and record their GPS coordinates online for others to find and log their adventure! If you find a cache, you might just be lucky enough to find a small trinket you can keep...but if you take a cache, you better leave one for the next person. There are millions of these geocaches hidden around the world, and over 4,500 in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. It really is a blast! You never know what you will discover. During our workshop, we will go over all the basics of geocaching and even make your own small cache to start. We look forward to seeing you.
